Lutheran Churches Partner With Wake County Habitat
Following their stated mission, Habitat for Humanity seeks to put God’s love into action and bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Many of our Hope for the Triangle churches partner with Wake Habitat for Humanity to do just that.
With the goal of a world where everyone has a decent place to live, Hope for the Triangle churches joined the effort in Southeast Raleigh called Old Poole Place. Over the next few years, 105 single family homes and townhomes will be built in this Habitat subdivision located on Old Poole Road. Faith communities and other groups have formed several coalitions to build these homes. There was a Lutheran wall build in February in the warehouse and onsite construction began in March. While this first home is close to completion, there are more to build.
On a regular basis we volunteer to build homes, community and demonstrate “God’s Work, Our Hands” in action. Jeff Hoffert is Christ the King’s Habitat coordinator, and he’s organizing the Lutheran churches to continue building once a month, even when the Lutherans aren’t sponsoring a home. No experience or skills are required, just that you be at least 16 years old.
